• I have the 2014 Cotic Roadrat (pic attached of Dunwich Dynamo set up).

The fork has the disc brake mount on the right-hand side. If I buy an off-the-shelf dynamo wheel, will it work? If so, does anyone have any advice or tips for choosing a good quality dynamo hub?

  • The electric parts don't care but you might conceivably unscrew something inside leading to sad times.

Schmidt says their newer hubs can go both ways, so use one of those.

Is the sense of rotation important on a SON hub dynamo?
All current SON hub dynamos do not have a defined sense of rotation. On a SON 28 klassik (year of manufacture until 2011) the connections must be on the right side, so that the threaded lid does not come loose.

  • Please tell me that somebody says you’ve put your forks on the wrong way round at least once a ride. It’s the only reason I ran one on my tricross.

  • Needs merging with dynamo thread.

  • Brill, thank you!

  • Lol yeah, it does attract some backhanded comments every now and then - 'I wonder why they did that...' 'That's unusual', 'That's ugly' etc.

  • I’ve run a dynamo on a roadrat with these forks. Worked fine. Nothing unscrewed. It was either a SP or SON hub dynamo. Think it was an SP.

  • There's one pictured on here so it definitely confuses people

Do Dynamos work if they roll the opposite direction?
