  • We're thinking about doing this route.

Reckon we could get it done in a weekend? Looks pretty flat but no idea about surfaces.

Any suggestions for wild camping spots for 2P tent?

Looks like there's a legit campsite at Olney (https://goo.gl/maps/NaFWeUTPVHFEEYSTA) so we could get the train to Letchworth Fri night and then ride to here and get an early start on Sat morning to maximise daylight.

"2 night minimum stay (Friday and Saturday) during weekends in July and August" and they want almost £30 a night for a tent spot which sounds like bullshit pricing to me.

Or this one: Ekeney Houses https://goo.gl/maps/RJbnqps4XjRibFuG6 (https://www.ekeney.co.uk/) which is £20.

Would need another spot for Sat night, somewhere near Thetford I guess at ~400k mark.

  • Why not get a train to Cambridge, stay in one of the cities many premier inns and then head out?

  • Because the original plan was to ride out and Letchworth is closer to us.

Then we thought "with Crossrail, we could get out there before peak hour and that would get us some way into the loop on Fri night" thereby buying us some time, since we basically have no idea if we can do this in a weekend.

(and wild camping is cheaper than staying in a hotel in Cambridge)

  • I've camped here a few times with friends. Slightly, but not too far out of the way. really nice campsite. Pub basically on site.

    @TvH or @platypus might know

  • why do the above unimaginative excursion when this is miles better (notes in description when you click thru)

  • I'm sure we've had this discussion before. I'm the same with bad novels - I will read them to the end because I have to finish them.

I have this route and I want to do it. Now that I have your route, you bastard :), I will have to finish that too. Because that's the way my brain works. But your route is now in the queue behind this one.

I mean, I guess I could've just said "I don't want to end up in Norwich".

  • In fact, now you've just got me wondering how I might combine them. Why do one when you can do two?

not a bad idea at all.
ending in Norwich is lovely. really underrated city.

  • Oh, I know why, because I've caned all my holidays already. I'm balls deep into unpaid leave now.

As for finishing in Norwich, I was joking but I do think it's much easier for me to get back from Letchworth.

  • That escalated quickly

  • If cough "summer" keeps being shit it won't escalate at all.

I just wanted to ride my CX bike before I sell it.

  • It's actually crazy that the routes are so different

  • I mean, I just ride up and down A roads for the most part so all these squiggles are making me a bit dizzy...
