Tour from the Netherlands to Italy

Posted on
  • I would like to do a tour on my road bike this summer, from Maastricht (south NL) to the north of Italy, lake Lugano specifically.
I would like to go via Grindelwald to cheer for friend who will be doing an ultra run, so this will mean a lot of climbing in Switzerland for me. The rest of the route I still have to decide on...
I don't know Luxembourg or this eastern part of France very well so tips are very much appreciated!!

  • Especially the part is Switzerland is gonna be wild, not sure if there are options with less climbing...

  • Wouldn’t the climbs be the cool part?

    Looks amazing! Nice plans.

  • Very, very jealous

  • The climbs are the best bits. You could consider the Sustenpass instead of Grimsel+Furka, I guess it depends where you're planning overnight stops.

  • I guess you're right! Just looks a bit intimidating at the moment haha. Thanks for the tip I'll look into that.
I don't want to plan the stops beforehand, I want to try a different approach to previous tours and sleep in a bivy, start cycling early in the morning till late in the evening (and take naps during the day)

it's the best way to travel!

  • Looks beautiful route. My only thought would be to pack for changeable conditions to not get caught out.

  • Good advise, might have to get an insulated gillet or so
