But would not a 24” kids mountain bike fit well? Its for people that size. Also not retro but orbea katu could be a good option

i mean i guess that's what i'm asking?
i suppose what's stopping me is these bikes tend to be enough outside of london logistically it's tricky to bring hana along to try the bike for size so would require me buying it and bringing it back and risking it being too small
so i was putting feelers out there to see if anyone had any experience or bike geo wisdom as to why it would be a good or bad idea
most of the current 24" bikes say they fit 8-10 year olds and a quick google says the average 10 year old is around 4ft 8 or sonice bike will keep an eye out - how heavy is yours?

I mean it will be the right size in a range that you can solve with stem and seatpost I would assume, unless its something weird. Just ask the seller to throw a tape measurer on the tt length and standover as that is pretty much all that matters. Plus they are CHEAPPPPPP

But my wife is a similar height and smaller wheels just make so much sense, putting her on super compact frames with 26/28 wheels she was jsut never happy. The only exception being her cargo bike. But 20 and 24" wheel bikes just fit smaller people. Even as an over 6footer small wheels are rad as they are semi indistrictuable and gooning around on massive tires on small rims is just fun

Happy to help
building up a bike for a mate who's 155cm / 5ft 1
documenting the process here and maybe will continue on with other projects
her requirements are a lot of standover height, extra comfy to ride, functional, low gearing and relatively light
budget of around £350-£400 but i'll also be donating bits and pieces from my parts bin
my instinct is to go for a classic 26" step thru basket shopper with some 26x2 slickish tyres as she'll mostly be riding round town
she's a professional sign painter by trade so want to use that as a bit of an inspiration i.e more classic styling something that fits the elegance of her work
it will almost definitely have the vibe of a riv which i'm into
at the moment have just been vaguely sesrching for 'step though (thru) mtb' 'ladies mtb' 'small mtb' '15" mtb' and other derivatives on the same sort of thing in the usual places - but looking for any advice, makes/models, alternative places to look that might fit the bill or even just more inspiration/different ideas on how to make this the best bike possible for hanna
at one point i was considering even going 24" wheeled kids mtb after reading this
cheech says she's 4’10 so a little shorter than hana and obviously her bike is more of a custom fit on 24" wheels
i love the idea of the bike being more in proportion with hana and would likely be a lighter bike it also might be a little more responsive for her as i know 700c bikes she's ridden have felt a little sluggish (although this might be down the the fram choice i don't know loads about geo)
however not being a frame builder and not having the budget for custom we have to find a second hand frame and all 24" wheeled bikes are built for kids
i have found somethings that fit the bill like the trek 220 which could be perfect
but not sure if it's a bad idea i feel like it's better to have a slightly too big bike than a slightly too small bike and 26" wheels are maybe the perfect size
anyway follow me on my journey and definitely send some links my way if you come across any small rigid mtbs or small wheeled step through frames
