Cable stop on top chainstay. Advice needed

Posted on
  • Hello. I have an old frame I am helping a friend build up and it has a cable stop on top of the chain stay. There are no cable guides or stops for the rest (nothing on the down tube). Any idea what kind of guides are necessary for this? There is a threaded hole for a cable guide at the bottom of the bottom bracket, but then there is no way to get the cable to the top of the chain stay. I was thinking about running an outer cable the hole way and fasten with ziptie/clamp on cable guides, but then you can't use the chain stay cable stop.

I have been looking around and are these type of guides the solution? I can't really see properly from the picture but it seems like a guide that allows the cable to stay above the chain stay? Something together with a clamp on cable stop like this one higher up?

FYI I am setting it up 1x and ignoring the FD so that's not a consideration.

    Many thanks in advance!

  • Have you some pictures of the bike in question, would help a lot to understand what’s going on :)

  • Yep, for over bb cables a band on guide is usual.. The only outer is the bit between the cable stop on the chainstay and the rear mech (assuming using downtube shifters)

If using brifters then a band on stop on the downtube up near the head tube is needed.

  • Thank you very much. Apologies currently don’t have access to the frame for pics. Indeed brifters hence mentioned the cable stops. Will get that band on and that should probs work. Thanks all
