Very happy to swap bits out in order to get the price down a bit - I guess different saddle, bars, brake calipers would get it down to... £375ish?

please enlighten me why is this canti brake 3 decade old bike is 450 quid?
good depth of field tho!

Well... I wasn't entirely sure how to price it to be honest, so I just kind of looked at similar stuff of a similar vintage, both on here and elsewhere, that look to have been sold for similar amounts of pounds.
However, if I've misjudged it (and to be honest, I don't think I'm a million miles off - there's certainly canti brake 3 decade old bikes that have sold for more) then I'm happy to have a chat about how to bring that down a bit.

Parts on the build are good stuff, tyres worth quite a bit, it's a nice frame in good condition, there is some time spent on it. I think it is fairly priced! We're also talking London prices here.

450 is high for a retromtb to a 30-50 year old with 10k hours in arguing about tyres sizes, but having had a partner buy one of @lt 's last builds and given it the eyeball and a skid, the fit, finish and tuning of the set up is better than any of the 3440930493 used bikes i've bought in my years
not worth anything to people who spend their weekends in a tool bag, but is quite re-assuring to the non bike person, £450 for the custom paint and a skilled mechanic to essentially give you a shop floor bike which looks and rides better than a halfords special seems fine
not like lt is some transient bst grifter

The going rate for a half decent refurbished 90's mtb seems to be £350-£400 at the moment but 99% of them won't be as nicely done as this. The price with this spec with a sweet paint job in great condition seems entirely reasonable. I've paid more for some right shitters in the past.

I guess its the usual brexit tax on all bike stuff, bikes that used to be x are now 2x, its mad but it is what it is. GLWS !

New bike for the same money that has no resemblance to an old Capri. Different strokes and all that but I'm always going to have a soft spot for a nice clean retro build

OP - it's a lovely looking bike and I'd have snapped this up if I didn't have a bike and a bike frame gathering dust already. Glws.
Alright so I'm not too sure how to price this, so firstly I'm open to discussion if I've misjudged it...
It's a Specialized Rockhopper step-thru, refinished in an old Ford Capri colour.
19" seat tube, 'top tube' is 22" / 56cm.
Build is as follows:
Brooks C17 saddle
Nitto Heron B354 bars
Maxxis DTH tyres
Specialized 170mm cranks w/ DIY de-ano 36t narrow wide 'ring, alu self extracting bolts
Sunrace thumb shifter driving a Deore LX mech
Tektro CR720 brakes with FL750 levers, braided cables
Wheels are the Exage / Araya ones it came with.
Tange headset, Shimano BB300 bottom bracket.
Surly rear canti hanger, Dia Compe cable guide
I've some DMR pedals on their way to include.
The tyres, cables, bar tape, bottom bracket, headset, cassette, chain, chainring etc are new and unused. The brakes, saddle, seatpost came from a spares box and are in good shape.
I was hoping for around £450ish as it is.
I'm in Camberwell, SE5.
