WTB small bike for a 5ft2 lady

  • Looking to get my partner her first bike, she wants something that she can commute on but is also capable for light off road terrain. Budget is around £300

  • I know this bike is up for sale at £400 - not quite light off-road, but a lovely bike. https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/369599/

  • Again, not specifically off road capable but my partner (also 5ft2) has taken the plunge and ordered a gravel bike on C2W and is looking to pass on her well loved Boardman.

It’s got 30c tyres and is easily capable of 32c with decent clearance. She has come with me on lots of tow path/light gravel rides with no issue.

Can come with a spare set of Aksiums which are much lighter than the stock wheels.

She is thinking £200 without Mavic wheels and £250 with. Located in Bristol but can post and head to London about once a month for work. LMK

  • Lovely, but pretty sure that would be too big for OP's OH.

  • flat bar or drops, as a first bike I'd suggest drops isn't where she wants to be starting off tbh.

I've got this Cro-Mo Raleigh Pioneer, 43cm frame. 6x3 (grip shift though works well), nice low ratios with the Altus chainset, light use overall though wheels replaced from original.
Can fit up to 40mm wide under the guards, has 40mm front 38mm rear (new) currently fitted.
Brand new pannier rack fitted also

    based in N.Herts (2mins from J9 A1)
    £145

  • I've got a 49cm Vernon Barker that I need to sell. Any good?

(Biggest tyre size would be 28mm rear and 32mm front.)

  • Get this, if it’s her first bike she will likely feel safer/more in control if slightly more upright.

Plus in the summer when she wants to buy a new bike you can sell it for the same probably.

The boardman looks great too but not quite on brief IMHO

  • Vernon Barker also nice but same boat as Boardman. In fact. It turns out I just like bikes, who knew.

  • Any good? Could find a shorter stem
