2021-02-27 Rider down (fatality, Marcos Cavendish), AL-101 Sul near Condomínio Laguna, Marechal Deodoro, Alagoas, Brazil

@scotts searched and found that @MarcosCavendish, who had bought the bike he was riding here, was hit and killed by the driver of a Volkswagen Fox on the AL-101 in northern Brazil, where I assume he lived, in February 2021.

I don't read Brazilian Portuguese, but it seems the day of the collision was the 27th February, a Saturday, the day the article was posted.

Fuck, this hit hard. Article says he was riding on the hard shoulder and something might have made him take evasive action, at which point a small car hit him from behind. The driver was a doctor and tried to assist. Just awful.
