North Wales - Bothy Tour

Planning on riding to Dulyn Bothy from Llandudno tonight then down to Penrhos Isaf at Coed Y Brenin. No doubt both will be full of fellow damp lovers so will be bringing the ear plugs / clothes peg for the aromatics.

Don't suppose anyone has been to either and tips for finding them or the best bits inbetween. Dulyn looks interesting with choice of path to access from the north or south - would be good to know which is "easier".

Pen Rhos Isaf is permanently shut due to vandalism, altho the toilet hut remains open.
You can bivvy or tarp with ease in the vicinity.
Source: was there in autumn last year.
The best bothy in Wales is undoubtedly Claerddu, but it's a bit of a longer ride.

Yeah will visit there next time. Nothing on MBA website or on summer newsletter to suggest it's shut. Will update with my own findings.

Trains that you could camp on ! Just an idea

Dulyn bothy confirmed for being ace. Had a fire, whisky and listened to some Kenny Rogers. 10/10.

Penrhos is open again, I met the MOs at a Nant Syddion work party recently.

Dulyn from Mellynllyn and across the dam involves some rock cut steps that you'll have to carry bikes up/down, however the "lower" path can be pretty boggy.

Despite it not being the least remote bothy in Wales Dulyn can be busy and can attract all sorts of characters. I don't think I've had either bothy to myself on a summer weekend.

Also if you're not already a member consider joining the Mountain Bothies Association or maybe turn up to a work party, the Wales area lot are a good bunch and everyone is made welcome whatever their skill level (or lack thereof).

Met another 2 hikers in Penrhos, good craic round fire drying everything out from a dreich day.

Love gravel riding around North Wales, it requires almost zero effort to plot an amazing route.

The route through dinorwic is on my hit list at some point.

Route I took yesterday between bothies. Only got almost vehicularly murdered by a classic VW camper heading up into Blaenau Ffestiniog. That was a low moment along with a few other close passes on that road. Not usually bothered by shit driving but maybe with the wind / rain / climb it proper shit me up.
