yeah could work, although some of the older calipers dont do so well with wide rims? and i have quite wide rims.

Got some pretty much brand new Shimano Ultegra R8000 that I used on one outing to the velopark for testing then swapped out for Dura Ace (every gram etc).
They’re in their original OEM boxes aswell.
Will definitely take wide rims and large tyres.
Have a feeling they may even have a set of pretty good condition Zipp (swissstop) carbon rim pads in the carriers. -

ah im too impatient! I just bought some on merlin 90 mins ago :(
Merlin has ultegra and dura ace super cheap atm on sale if anyone else is looking.

Haha - I’m exactly the same - I bought these from Merlin myself, so you’d have got them at Merlin -Dickpreciation price from me 😂
R8000, sram something or whatever. just needs to be compatible with shimano levers and normal reach.
