• Picked this up thanks to the ebay finds thread. Figured it would be best to scratch the rev-x itch sooner rather than later. Still feels too sketchy to go anywhere fast or too far from home so town bike it is.
Gonna throw some cruiser bars and flat pedals on, maybe a rack if I don't just flog it in a few weeks.

Headset and stem is a bit seized due to the last owners turbo sweat (ick), but I'll put off dealing with that for a while.

Sticking it here for a bit of accountability to actually do some work on it.

  • Oo, I was tempted by this too, it being local to me. Looking forward to seeing what it becomes!

  • I miss skrtluv.

Aren't Spinergies supposed to be The Wheels of Death? Or am I just being a party pooper?

  • I've got a set that I've been using for a year, 650c clinchers.

Still got all my teeth, haven't had any drama or chopped up any small pets.

    Anecdata 7/10

  • This is the one I spotted! Please be safe on those wheels, feeling some vicarious liability may get me if it goes wrong 🤣

Looking forward to seeing what you can do!!

  • I had exactly the same feelings with a set of 650C Spinergys that I got last year. Always wanted a set and they looked great but riding them, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was on borrowed time. I ended up selling them and using some Bontrager Race Lites. Ended up finding a crack in the headtube so in the end I probably should have worried more about the frame.

    This looks great!

  • couple of photos to show that this did become a working bike for a short time. sadly though I just don't have the nerve to get out of the saddle or ride it on dodgy surfaces which basically rules out all of bristol.

  • Here is mine, in the wild

Keep the faith, sod the teeth

  • Just because there are couple of pics on Google search of exploding wheels, doens't mean all of these wheels are dangerous.

Most of these wheels are well over 20 years old and the fact that they are still around says a lot about their quality IMHO.

  • honestly I'm more put off by the 22mm tubs than I am by the wheels themselves. got to sort out literally every bearing on this bike so once that's done it'll get another chance.

  • Mine are clinchers. Wouldn't ride 650c tubs on the roads near me!

  • gonna expand this to record my tinkering with the other bikes so I don't keep dismantling everything when I get bored.

starting with the track bike in it's current state. lugged zona frame by factory five, bit of a mishmash of parts, current highlights are the titec bars and the cadence double straps.

  • I had a front Rev-X, crashed it off the top of the RedBull minidrome way back when. The bike took enough of a hit that the front QR bent but I got a new axle and rode the wheels for another year after that with zero issues. As long as you don't hit any suicidal squirrels then you should be fine!

  • so the rev-x's are gone but i'm super into this frame so it's getting a second chance as a bad weather road bike, managed to fit a 32 in the back and potentially a 28 up front.
if anyone wants to shift a very budget friendly groupset lmk!

  • finally put the dolan back together after tons of faffing about, needs a rack or basket of some kind but need to swap out the 7800 shifters so the cables don’t interfere
