  • First time posting a build - hope it gets the thumbs up!

Picked up the frame from @Alban along with wheels and a few extra bits months ago and have slowly been building it into a fun commuter / weekend ride / maybe a bit of touring / do it all bike.

The paintwork seems to get brighter on a grey, rainy day and the animal prints make it feel like you're riding a kids bike.

Tried to keep it as second hand / parts bin as possible but ended up having a new front wheel built as the one that came with the frame was dished and had a fair bit of wear to the hub. Planning on getting a matching rear wheel once I knacker this one & might go up from 7 to 9 speed when I do.

The wheels came with Maxxis Hard drive 2.0 tyres which look sick, but opted for the standard Marathon Plus as I will almost exclusively be riding on roads.

It's running 36t on the front and 11-28t on the back.

Since taking the pics I've swapped out the stem for something slightly shorter with more rise. Planning to find some black brakes, swap the bars for some with a little sweep and also change the shifter. Got a front rack & Rando bag on the way as well.

  • Nice work! Glad to see some new life in it. Sorry to hear about the front wheel, let me know if there’s anything I can do.

Not into the thumb shifter? Have you tried it on friction? It’ll do 8speed indexed ok and 9 with friction... nice choice of derailleur too :)

  • Thumbs up from me!

Nice clean build. The paint pops and the yellow cables are great.

@Alban do you have any frames/bikes for the lankier type of rider like myself?

  • Ah no worries on the wheel at all. Gave it a service myself and probably made it worse. Been getting on OK with the shifter, just curious to try one of the two-paddle ones. 100% see what you mean about the threading issue though - nearly fucked it once and now it's on tight but using some dodgy washer action.

  • yeah fair enough! Are they modern / new brake levers, specific for canti brakes? They look a bit like Avid v brake levers, which you wouldn't expect to work with canti's...

@Ndeipi afraid not pal... are you keen for a mtb? I can keep an eye out for ya

  • Yes keen for a MTB just like this one. This is basically my ideal build but I would add some saucy guards. I can't believe I just typed "saucy guards". What the fuck is wrong with me.

But yeah something bombproof for all weather that can pull a trailer full of drums (another project) around London.

  • Yeah they're Avid! But pretty sure they're canti levers.

  • Very nice!

  • If they are FR5's, they are indeed for v-brakes as @Alban suggested.
Maybe upgrade to some black v-brakes?
