• long story, but I've been trying to help out a mate whose frame was trashed in an attempted theft.
unfortunately his frame was pressfit SRAM, and my donor frame is threaded so had to buy new cranks, along with new rotors, and tyres, etc. etc. so what was supposed to be a cheap build to help a pal back on the road is getting more and more spendy. and now I'm struggling to find a reasonably priced NW ring.

    tldr;
I need a 110 BCD NW ring to fit a Shimano 4 bolt road crank.

  • Which shimano crank? Is it asymmetric?

    I bought a J&L one recently. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/J-L-Narrow-Wide-1x-ChainRing-Fit-Shimano-105-Ultegra-Dura-Ace-38-40T-42T-44-46T-/302375911871?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

Only other one I could find was wolftooth which was much more spendy.

  • I have a 46t Garbaruk and a 50t Wolftooth. Reasonable price is…?

The Wolftooth is fairly compatible with most arms.

The Garbaruk is for Dura Ace.

  • it's a tiagra so yeah, asymmetric 4 arm.
    j&l could work. thanks.

  • hey, how's it going?
embarrassingly I've still hardly ridden the purple caad...

50t would be too big, 46t could work but I imagine it's going to cost more than the j&l? (£30)

  • Hello hello! All good here thanks, yourself?

embarrassingly I've still hardly ridden the purple caad...
SHAME! It'd be my perfect winter bike now....

Yeah afraid the 46t is DA 9100 compatible only. It's very nice though. And not as expensive as you'd perhaps fear. Did I mention I also have the matching DA cranks for sale? They a little more expensive mind!

  • yes, I'm alright ta!
the caad was too small for you anyway ;)

like I said, this was supposed to be a simple frame swap for a trashed lock-up commuter. I think da cranks and garbaruk are probably a bit too thief magnet!

  • all sorted now.
and for anyone wondering - a TA specialites One x110 GRX ring can be lightly massaged with a file to enable it to fit a shimano asymmetric road crank.
