Compact Cranksets/chainset for Octalink

Posted on
  • I am on the look out for a compact octalink crankset. I believe I am looking for octalink V1: it is to go with a DA BB7700 (Only 170g!)

I believe the FC-R345 is my only readily available option but I was wandering if somebody is aware of any others.

Here is a list of all the ones that were once in production (that I know of):

    • There was a Ritchey WCS crankset made for octalink (Somebody made a post about this a month ago but nobody responded)
    • They made the Sugino Alpina for Octalink at one point
    • Cannondale Coda Expert (Seems to be pretty rare; very light)
    • FSA Gossamer/SLK/carbon pro (most of these were ISIS drive but I think the made some with Octalink)
    • Maybe something else from Shimano; Sora or Claris (e.g. FC-2450 but it weighs 1kg)
    • Stronglight Pulsion (Very light)
    • Deda D-power (This might have been isis drive only)?
    • M.D. ST?
    • Look, Time, ITM, Deda possibly?

I am trying to cast as wide a net as possible. Please let me know if you are aware of any others.

    Thanks

  • I have a v1 Octalink carbon crankset that I think is from FSA (that’s what I infer from the graphics, there’s no manufacturer’s branding just ‘S Force X’). It’s waiting on a cheap 110mm-ish bottom bracket to turn up here : )

  • So this crank you have now is not compact and you are also looking for one?

  • It has no chainrings but is designed to be a double. I was going to 1x10 it, at some point, because I have a 36t 110BCD n/w ring and 11-36 cassette knocking about spare.

  • Ah I see. Please can you send a photo?

  • I also have a BB-5500 which is currently fitted to a bike with the 105 triple. Both are 109.5mm width and italian thread. I would like to at least hang on to the dura ace one try and make it work...

  • Pic sent, good luck with your search - maybe stick an ad in Wanted?
