Moustache and mtb brakes

  • Started riding a nitto moustache with aero levers and a short stem. Brilliant, and no more sore neck. Im building up a tourer and I want hydraulic rim calipers and seems I have to have mtb levers.

Can you fit them in the same position as road levers or is the reach too far? I like the forward position on the bars, I don't want to ride them like a north road bar. Also gonna use bar end shifters. Is anyone riding anything set up like this?

    Thanks all.

  • Would have thought you’d struggle to get levers in a good position.

There’s also bar diameter to think about, if you’ve got road levers fitted currently then those bars are presumably 23.8mm, mtb levers would require 22.2mm bars. I’m sure 22.2mm moustache bars exist but choice might be limited and then finding a bar and shifter to fit the reduced inner diameter might be difficult.

  • Looking at these

22.2 diameter and take bar ends. Looking at magura cantis but honestly I think the lever are too ugly mtb style for a vintage steel road frame. I need a pair of hs66/77 levers but they seem impossible to find...
