Hiya, after commuting fixed with a heavy bag on my knees are suggesting that having a bike with a pannier rack and 1x gears to get me up the hill I live on while carrying shopping and laptop might be a good idea..
I'm trying to do this with mainly bit I have lying around - I have a 130BCD crank and a Exage300 rear derailleur. Am I correct in thinking I could get a wolf tooth road link and run a ten speed 11 to 36or even 40 rear cassette? Was thinking of 38 or 40t n/w chainring. Won't win any races but I'm thinking heavy bike up hill situation.
The Exage RD is 7 speed but I think all shimano 6-10 speed use the same cable pull? Will prob use a down tube friction shifter I have at the mo but will 'upgrade' to STI levers at some point.
Is this a terrible idea? Thanks for any advice!
