• Been looking for a while, but figured I'd post here before paying the big $$$

    • Down quilt
    • Sleeping pad
    • Hooped bivy

Must be size long (I'm around 6-2)

  • If you have to pay to go new for the hooped bivi, I noticed that Rab have revamped the Ridge Raider into its third iteration which should be available from September 2021. They replaced the eVent fabric with Pertex Shield Air and added a small pole to the rear while saving about 100g. It is nice to see the weight come down (my second version is 985g) , but one loses the stronger eVent fabric.

  • Thanks for the info!

I like the look of the (now discontinued) Ridge Master with the raised foot box, so good to know the new Ridge Raider is a bit more in that direction.

Not sure I want to wait till after the Summer though!

  • If you like the idea of a supported foot area, there is also the Macpac Bush Cocoon (now also updated from eVent to Pertex Shield Air) which takes a small external pole or stick, though they only produce them every few years. They seem to be currently available from the manufacturer:

In practice, one can just place a pannier or small backpack in the foot of the second version of the Ridge Raider as it is long and I imagine the same is true of the Rab Unishelter. One of the latter bivis was for sale on the LFGSS forum recently and it may still be available, [edit] here it is:
