• I have for sale a Carradice SQR rack which I’ve customised by adding a hoop under the bag for additional support.

I find this really reduces the sway you get in the bag, especially when climbing out the saddle.

The bag will sit slightly more upright than on a standard SQR but not by much. If you wanted a much more upright position I have done another rack which incorporates a Carradice ‘Classic rack’ with the SQR. I could make you one of those.

The hoop means you need a bit of clearance over the rear tyre/mudguard to get the bag and rack in and off the SQR block. I reckon you want around 150mm from the top of the tyre/guard to the lowest point on the SQR block. On the bike in the photos I have 140mm from the lowest point on the SQR block to the saddle rails. Let me know if there are any other measurements I can provide to help you figure out if this will fit for you.

Can sell with or without the SQR block depending if you already have one or not.

Also if you already have an SQR rack we could work out some sort of part ex. I’m in Glasgow though so this would have to be done by mail.

£60 with the block, £50 without, take a tenner off those prices if you have a rack to send to me? Prices include shipping.

  • This is cool, not to derail your thread, but I'm quite intrigued by this:

Do you have any pictures? I'm keen to have a more upright Carradice bag, albeit with SQR portability.

  • That is a nice design/custom modification.

  • Nice. You make some really cool stuff.

  • I took this that shows the difference in dangle angle!

  • I'll take this with the block - recently bought a carradice bag for commuting with a laptop. will pm.

  • Great work. I was a bit confused and wondering how the red strap would add support until I looked at the pics for probably the 4th time and realised you meant the black strap with Japan stamped on it.

I have the Altura Night Vision post rack bag. As yours appears to have sold can I derail this thread further and ask if you have any suggestions for improving this as it has quite a big pendulum effect when out of the saddle?

  • Yeah the red strap is just to make them bag easier to carry off the bike. I really need to sort a longer shoulder strap.

The standard SQR doesn’t have any support under the bag, on both of my racks pictured here I’ve added the under bag support.

For yours, could you add some sort of triangulated bracing down to the seat stays? Kind of like Carradice offer for the bag man?

  • Are you planning on making any more of these?
Would love one or the one that incorporates a Carradice ‘Classic rack’ ,but the bike fund is exhausted this month,so after payday would be better.

  • Good suggestion, will see what I can fashion out of the various bits in my garage
