What were your plans after chroming the front end? (What paint scheme I mean)
-

This one, with the front lugs and the fork crown.
The story is that the previous owner has sprayed the original paint with mat black... I carefully tried to take it off but the original paint was too damaged, so I decided to chrome the front end and make another paintjob.
But the fork had a crack during it's chrome bath and the damage was too big.

Do you want some chromed forks, I bought them with a frame with seized seatpost, could sell on as they aren't going to be doing much unless I get the post out?

Is it an MXL fork ? With that gorgeous crown that made me bought the whole bike...?
:)

Is this how chrome lugs were done back then? Just from interested in the process - I assumed you couldn't braze a pre-chromed lug but hadn't seen a frame pre-paint like this before.
Lovely frame, my size too. But no space : )

Yes frames are chromed first and painted.
This is another Merckx, NOS before painting :
(Thanks @GrosNaze)

I just ordered a Max fork (but with straight legs...)
So I wait to receive the fork and if it's nice I'll keep the frame.

As retrogression said "steerer wall thickness is much too thin to cut threads in it"...
Inner diameter is 22,2mm and outside diameter is 25,4mm...
So I don't understand why I shouldn't cut threads...

I could consider a trade for a Shimano Ultegra R8000 11v groupset.
I need :
- crankset (175mm)
- brifters
- front and rear derailleurs
- cassette (need a big cog)
- chain
- crankset (175mm)
