What’s best to do?

  • The brake bolt stuck in....... I could have been more sympathetic getting it out.
It’s an old unknown probably 531 frame my son rides to school on.
What’s best (and cheapest) get a new fork, get a new brake post brazed on or maybe get a disc mount somehow?

  • The one on the far side? Or have you damaged the one on this side?

If the one on the far side I’d carry on trying to get it out getting more destructive as you go.

File flats on the bolt head and use a spanner, drill and re-tap, heat to free it (probably wreck the brake).

  • It was the one on this side, 3 days of rust penetrator and heat followed by drilling and screw extractor. I retapped which went out through the side then wound a bolt in that burst the base.

  • I might have a fork that matches the colour and has canti studs assuming it's 1" steerer? Do you know what the length the steerer tube is?

  • New fork would be the easiest option. people will have one on here for under £50

  • Ah ok, couldn't make that out on my phone.

New post could be brazed on pretty easily, I have some that might match.

I'd do the work for like...£20? But shipping the fork to and from me and painting it once I was done will probably make a new fork the more economical option.
