Hey lfgss,
Ive got an infamous Dolan Crack champion frame that cracked at the seatpost collar. After exploring multiple possibilities (custom quill seatpost, milling it down into a new seatpost collar...etc) ive come to the conclusion that the cheapest/most efficient way to fix this would be to grind/file down the top of it, and glue in a long insert for 25.4 seatposts with a clamp collar on the top of it.
Quill seatpost would be nice as I very likely wont be reselling this frame so adjustability is not that important, but its only got like 10cm of round diameter in the seattube, after that it expands into the aero shape, and the quill would just further reduce the contact (?).
Hence glued in insert with new standard round clamp. My problem is that in London I dont have access to any workshops. If I take it with me to Hungary (where ive got access to workshops), the price of luggage will be more than buying a used frame. The moment I pay someone labour to do it for me, same problem occurs. I have contacts to make the custom insert for me.
Is there anyone with a workshop who wouldn't mind having me around for an afternoon in exchange for a few bottles of their favourite craft beer, and the fact that this frame wont be binned but gets a new life?
