TAKEN: very ratty 'Mercury GT' frame 56cm

  • I've decided to finally give up on this frame due to lack of space and just not riding fixed gear very much at the moment. Pretty sure it's not worth anything, plus I originally found it in a skip about 10 years ago, so I'm happy to give it away to someone who might be able to breath new life into it (or make use of the scrap metal).

Measures 56cm c-c seat tube and top tube. I'm 5'11 and it's always felt a bit on the small side for me but that might be just how I had it set up.

    It's definitely seen better days:

    • headset feels very gritty
    • bottom bracket has play
    • there's something loose in the frame, presumably a bit of grit or a bearing, that makes a fun noise when you go over bumps
    • the front fork has been drilled for modern brake calipers, but the nut is seized in place. Still possible to attach/detach a brake caliper by just spinning the whole thing, or you might be able to get the nut out with more know-how (and patience) than me.
    • rear rack mounts have bolts seized in place, although I've never tried to remove them.

    Good things:

    • seatpost moves (with a bit of love)
    • headset, bb, seatpost and chain included. although I wouldn't expect much life left in any of them
    • erm, nice 'patina'?
    • pump pegs!

Collection only please from N16. Never sold/given away anything on here before but think I've figured out the dibs/PM system. But be gentle if I've missed anything out etc!

  • For illustrative purposes only, here's what it looked like when last built up with a comically large basket. (with apologies for NDS fail)

  • The frame has now been taken. Cheers.
