To do urgently:
Front brake (it's in the mail)To do soon:
Remove ugly white logo on seatpost
Bigger chainring (can't go full speed on the flat)
MudguardsTo do someday:
Rear disc brake
bought a sram gx 11speed groupset on the bay, 11-42t would be much better that 11-34t -

Awesome. Really want to build something with a clydesdale fork.

Front brake's on, put some stuff on it! This wasn't very heavy but it is really easy to bike with. Hardest part is putting anything on without it tipping over, gotta add a kickstand to the to do list

Do it! especially if you're somewhere where they're actually available to buy, I feel very lucky to have found this one in the UK

Rad! I love my Rockhopper with a Clydesdale fork. Pretty sure it’s improved the handling loaded and unloaded as well.
I’ve installed a Pletscher twin leg kickstand. I works okay, but having the rear rack and kids seat makes it a bit unbalanced, and there’s no way my son can be in the seat with the kickstand down. It is handy for loading up the basket though.
Are you going to use a basket or crate on the platform? I’m probably going swap out the Wald I’m using for a lug crate very soon.

Excellent thread, I went and read it again and I have some questions..
How much clearance is there with the 20x2.2" tires? I went for 20x1-3/8" (also Maxxis DTH) and it looks kinda tight already near the mudguard mounts. I was also annoyed to find that I couldn't run a strap under the front of the platform because of the tire.
And can you post a pic of your kickstand? My frame has a little brace on the chain stays that I'm afraid might make it hard to mount

I ran a 2.4" Maxxis Grifter successfully, though I can't recall if that was in conjunction with the mudguard I sold you with the fork

Thanks.
Here’s where the chain stays meet the bottom bracket. I just managed to squeeze the kickstand in under the front derailleur. It’s a bit of a clusterfuck under there with the stand clamp now because the derailleur is top and bottom pull, so it’s pretty bulky. I’ll take a photo tonight. The clamp also has interfered with the shifter cables a little bit, but I can’t feel it in the shifting. It’d be fine with a 1x groupset.
As for the front wheel. I reckon there might be a enough clearance with the 2.2” tyre. I’ll have to look tonight as well.

Made some minor changes:
34T chainring
Petscher twin leg kickstand
Beater rear mudguard
Cute inner tube chainstay guardand took some gratuitous photos. Needs a MUCH bigger box. At least 4x bigger. I'd like one of those tesco food delivery things, big footprint and low walls seems like it could be useful.
Turns out there is plenty of space for the kickstand in there, it's just hard to do up the big bolt. The front still flops around when it's up on the kickstand, so maybe time for a steering spring

Looks great!
I actually swapped from a big 60L lug crate back to a Wald 139 on mine. I found the extra weight at the front annoying, even when empty. The crate alone was 2.5kg.

Right! I can see where you're coming from.

I've been a bit disappointed by the design of the front of the rack, I find that straps (I've been mostly using old innertubes) slide off the rounded corners at the front. Best I can figure is narrow X across the middle. I also can't strap anything horizontally as it rubs the tire. Perhaps a longer front fender.
That said.. Chop saw transport was no problem
I'm (fingers crossed) moving flats soon so might try to fashion some "improvements" for strapping

Some recent trips:
I'm particularly proud of one not pictured - my partner (who financed the fork purchase, thanks, but perhaps never understood my passion for it) used it to take some unfired pottery to the kiln-place (not sure what that's called) and back, no issues

Also in the interim I tried to put a fatter tire on the front, learned that there are different "20 inch" rim sizes. Maybe one day I'll build a dynamo/disc/406 wheel.
More importantly, I gotta get different bars on there. My fingers and the brake levers are always getting squeezed, so will source something with some sweep. Stay tuned loyal fans. Like and subscribe.

Any updates? Dope build.

No updates but no news is good news! It's been getting lots of use and has been very handy.
I did try some swept back bars (On One Mike) to deal with the load interfering with brake levers but they weren't as comfortable and worked better on another bike so swapped back. The long term to do list is:
- Hite Rite dropper post
- 406/dynamo/disc front wheel

Off topic but are those Chelsea boots converted to roller skates? (Lovely bike btw)
-
• #19
Yes - bought them for a thing and never wore them again so bolted the skates on (but have yet to skate very much either)

What size tyre are you running on the back?
-
• #21
It's a maxxis DTH 26x2.15. I tried the 2.3s but they rubbed a little. Perhaps also worth noting that the rim I have on there now is very narrow, not sure how that affects actual width

love seeing pictures of this, keep them coming!

Chop saw on there is brilliant. What are those new bars/
-
• #24
On one Mike! Comfy but they still got in the way of strapping things, and the wide flat bars are much better for heavy loads, so I have others back on now
-
• #25
Thanks - both look good. Are the wide bars on one as well? kind of want to build a hauler now!
Bit of a dream project for me..
