Sram Rival 1 shifter not shifting

Hey,

Went to change a gear cable on my 1 x Sram groupset and when I tried to index the gears the right hand shifter had stopped shifting. I’ve tried pulling on the cable itself and sometimes it will shift but not every time. Is this common? Do I need a new shifter?

Check you’ve got the right gear cable

I know it sounds daft but I had the same with my CX bike, sent the shifter back to SRAM claiming it was faulty. They sent it back saying the gear cable was the issue and it needed to be a 1.1mm cable (if I remember correctly)

Oh that’s interesting. Just checked the cable size and it’s 1.2mm. Could possibly be the issue?

As SRAM shifter cables are all listed as 1.1mm thick and the post above has SRAM actually telling you that too I’ll go out on a limb and say “Yes”

Woah... Alright mister sarcastic. The above post says “if I remember correctly”, hardly Gospel truth mate. I’d probably go out on a limb and say chillllll. Thanks for the odd way of offering advice on the internet.

Did you change the outer too? It's probably binding in there if not.

Yeah I changed the outter too.

It’s a cheap thing to try before getting a new shifter anyway :)
