3/32" might be near enough?
3/32" is what they are if you're measuring 2.2mm, Shimano use Imperial size balls. The EV says 1/8" for the M525, so something is wrong.

On the web I've found they are 2.2 mm
The web is lying to you. Use the Shimano tech docs or measure them for yourself.

I'm servicing old (1990's) M525 SPD pedals and each have 24 ball bearings in them which I want to replace.
On the web I've found they are 2.2 mm which is not easy to find.
Any ideas where they might be bought?
