Chris King Headset Undersized?

Posted on
  • Hey guys,

Have got a friend with a 1-1//8th CK headset that when fitted into his frame doesn't even need a press to get it in. Weirdly the no name standard headset that came with the frame fits fine.

Not having the parts in front of me at the moment I can't measure them with a vernier, has anyone come across CK headsets being undersized/bang on the low end of the tolerance at all?

    Cheers!

  • Someone has posted on here before about King headsets needing a smaller diameter ream than others I'm sure.

They spec a 33.9mm headtube ID in the manual which corelates with the Park reamer* but Cyclus do a 34.0mm reamer (that strangely seems to get sold as being for King headsets).

*I have a King headset in a headtube reamed with a Park tool and it's not the tightest fit I've ever dealt with but neither is it worryingly loose.

  • Interesting. I'm pretty sure the frame was prepped with Park Tool kit so weird that he's having this issue. Will get to the bottom of it this week hopefully.

  • Nice bit of information that @M_V.
