Hello,
Where are you staying?
Castle, bastion, parliament at night, Andrássy, heroes square, Szabadság, chain bridge, momento park all amazing.
Walk everywhere I’ve lived here between my onshift rotation for a year and it’s still amazing to me every day just walking around. Hoping it never wears off.
I don’t drink so can’t help beer and being vegan/vegetarian is not easy here for traditional food anyway.

We’re staying in the Castle district. I don’t expect vegetarian goulash but is there any good vege restaurants worth checking out?

Kozmosz is the only dedicated place I’ve been was lovely.
You could easily spend three days just exploring where you are but definitely venture down to Heroes. Citadella has the best instagram view half way up from the noncastle side if you venture past the overgrowth.

There's an absolute abundance of ornate churches. Beer is cheaper than water.

“M” restaurant used to be great (about 15 years ago) and iirc someone else recommended it a couple of years ago too. Fusion of French and Hungarian and used to do some veggie options.
Also sezeny baths are great

If you see garlic soup on a menu, have it.
It's fucking amazing. -

Also fruit soups are pretty awesome

I don't live there, but was there for a couple of days last year. Really surprised by how easy it was to stumble across vegan food without specifically looking for it. I recall an excellent vegan ice cream place, but no idea of name or location.

Gellert thermal baths are a good place to chill for a few hours...

The public transport is superb so it’s easy to get around; enjoyed the szimpla ruin bar; the memento park of old statues; the railway/chairlift and all the baths...

Ines bakery for the bagels (fine) but the sziba (?) cinnamon buns, which will change your world.

Proper craft beer pubs:
Ogre Bácsi
Edison Bar & Ink
Élesztőház
There are lots more though, these are just the ones I know personally and they never disappointed me.I'd probably avoid Szimpla as it became so popular and crowded you can barely find a place to sit anymore.
Plus to what DerDieDas said: walking by the Danube can be amazing given the weather isn't horrible. View from Szabadság bridge is cool. Make sure to get up Gellért hill as well, both the day and night view from up there are fantastic. Vajdahunyad Castle is next to Heroes' Square, should be seen as well (it's lit up at night, looks amazing).
And if you have time (and a sunny weather), Margaret Island should definitely be checked out. -

There’s quite few places doing Middle Eastern food for about £1.50 a meal. Food was decent, better than the place we went where it was like £30.

Has anyone been recently? Any more up to date recommendations for bars/food?
We’re going to Budapest next week and I was wondering if anyone can recommend some things? We like walks and planning to do at least 1 of the yellow umbrella guided tours (that should give as an idea what we want to explore more). We also like beer (well, I do) and good food (meatless). Any tips/recommendations?
