2020-01-30 - Pedestrian fatality, Kelly Avenue/Peckham Road, Peckham.

Police are investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Southwark.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) at 06:26hrs
on Thursday, 30 January to reports of a car in collision with a
cyclist on Kelly Avenue at the junction with Peckham Road, SE15.

Officers attended. A male cyclist, no further details, had been in
collision with a VW Golf. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene
at 06:55hrs.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has dash cam footage of the
collision is asked to call 101 quoting Cad 1080/30Jan or Tweet @MetCC.

R.I.P rider. It's really sad. That's a terrible junction, long-earmarked for some work to make it better for cyclists. Driver failed a roadside drug-test, according to one report.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing a roadside drug test.

It seems that the updated police report still has one erroneous reference to a cyclist, having been only partly edited. It's possible that the driver hit a cyclist and a pedestrian, with the latter dying, but it's probably more likely that there was only one victim.

No point speculating as to what might have happened. Perhaps there will be more information in due course.

I know Rider Down usually needs two references but the police have tended to be reliable in the past and many news outlets seem to publish the police reports without any checking either.
