so you're saying when it's positioned all the way down the hanger, the bolt won't tighten?
-

When its all the way down in position and you tighten the bolt it raisers the rear of the mech.
Pic one is bolt tight.
Pic two is where it should be?! -

Do you have more adjustment room to move the whole derailleur down? In that first pic it's definitely too high, you want the bottom of it to be 1-2mm above the top of the chainring teeth.

Second pic is as low as it goes, I tighten the bolt and it goes to pic one

hanger looks skewiff maybe? is the ST curved?
-
• #9
The seat tube is curved yeah

Just a ‘90s frame made for bigger chainrings innit?

I think that’s exactly the issue. Can’t you position something between the mech body and the braze on (above the bolt) to level it out? Even a small piece of inner tube cut to size would be thick enough to bring the rear ‘down’.

It's meant for a 53/39 chainset not the smaller rings you have. You would ha e to do so.e filling on the braze on mount to rectify or get a standard double.
I like that phrase a standard double. Of course it's no longer the standard.

Thanks for that.
Not ironically that was the original size I wanted before the seller said he had taken to skip after I purchased. So currently is a 50/34 If I was to put a 53 on top would the mech be able to drop to the 34 or would I still need that too?
In the meantime I’ll ride without the front or maybe try to shim
So this is probably a dumb question and I have searched and watched videos but nothing answers. I’ve never built a bike with gears either.
If the front mech is aligned correctly then the bolt is not tight enough and the whole thing moves.
If I tighten the bolt all the way then the rear kicks up, which puts it too high?
Am I missing something?
The bike in question is a 90’s Oliva pursuit with braze on for the mech, the paint looks good so dont think the hanger is bent.
