  • Can these grommets be pulled out when i undo the allen and not have them just drop in the frame . I am having a mare trying to install the cables . Whats the zen method that people use?

  • They should come out but depending on the age and style may fall inside and be more annoying.

You can use a magnet to fish it out, or use a spoke. I sometimes put a loop of wire in the hole, push the cable right past the hole and fish it out while drawing the cable back slowly.

Also adding a slight kink to the cable then twisting it from the opposite end sometimes makes it pop out easier.

  • Yeah they can be taken out, I've got them on my bike. An unfolded paper clip might help you fish the cable out the other end, or a small cable tie feed through the hole perpendicular to the cable, before the cable is put in, so that both ends are poking out of the hole, then thread the cable through, pull the cable tie out, then back the cable off until the end pokes out of the hole. Then send your frame builder an angry email as to why they didn't use a tiny tube to like the ports together.

  • True !

  • The grommets did come out eventually only then could i grab the cable ends . Nightmaređź‘Ž
