• Does anyone have front and rear 8-speed Campagnolo Record or Chorus hubs in good condition? I'd also consider wheels if they were already built up.

    Thanks.

  • Yep pretty sure I do. I'll have a look tomorrow.

  • Which flavour of spline are you after? There are three...

  • Matthewn5, Thanks for making me aware of the differences in the splines and for the link. Looking at the link, probably one of the first two, but if the hub has a cassette with it, it wouldn't matter...or as long as I can get one.

Currently, I have a set of Mirage hubs with an 8-speed cassette on the bike. The cassette has no gruppo markings on it. The wheels were built in 2003, but I don't know when the hubs were originally manufactured, maybe around then. Does this information or these pictures of the cogs help?

    Thanks!

  • Hard to say wyhout seeing the spline but that looks like an Ultra-Drive cassette, which fits all Campag splines, according to this thread:

I've got a pair of C-Record era Chorus Exa-Drive 8-speed hubs in very nice condition, with smooth bearings and freehub. 36h front and 32h rear (this seems to have been a common setup at the time, no idea why). I have a complete c.1993 group and was planning to use the hubs to build an 8-speed bike on a yet-to-be-bought frame, but have an N+1 problem, so could be persuaded to part with them for a decent offer via PM.

  • Hey man, got some pics of the wheels. PM me your number and I'll sent them over if you like.

  • Hi Matt

The hubs that you pictured are early 90s chorus as opposed to record. The front hub was a carry over from the Croce d’aune groupset and is visibly different from the record one of the same era.

    Chorus hubs:

In terms of spoke holes, the more common set up was 36 hole on the rear (for extra strength) and 32 on the front.

  • Well spotted! The Record front hub has an alloy 'cone' outboard of the flange, where the Chorus version has a black steel cap. I knew that once... They're otherwise identical internally, according to the parts diagrams. Apologies for the confusion, I've updated post above.

Regarding spoke holes, indeed that was the theory, but I've seen many wheelsets with the opposite configuration, which is confusing.

  • I suspect mechanically both sets are identical. Beautiful hubs.

  • I have a high flange Record/Super Record set here, if that’s what you’re looking for: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/337867/#comment14880370

... do check the spacing of your frame though, these might be too narrow as setup.

Not sure if I have an 8sp freewheel knocking around, but they’re available new/used if not.
