Looks good!
What is the deal with the integrated crown race?
Are you limited to use headsets with cartridge bearings?
Cheers

Alright Vince,
I'm actually not sure! The Ebay guy selling these has headsets that he supplies with the forks. I tried an fsa orbit with cartidge bearings and actually had a little hassle fitting it perfectly as it seemed to rub somewhere on the cup. I've bought another fork previously for another bike, and used it with the same headset but had to bodge a spacer to fit ontop of the race.
I think others on the forum have fitted and rode it successfully but cant remember which headsets they were using.
It's a decent fork though. Weighs 342g. I've got a load of 1" carbon spacers I'll chuck in too and a shim for 1 1/8 stems if needed
Cheers

Just to add info too...I'm selling the frameset that this came with on Ebay for £20 cash on collection (bill nickson - you can do a search)
The frame has a few potential issues (read the description) but comes fitted with the fsa headset and a carbon collar. I dont mind selling these together for £85 posted if that's of interest, and buyer can try to make it work

Yes, looks like it wouldn't take a convential 1"threadless headset, sadly... because they require a right angle junction between steerer and fork crown.

I think you're mistaken. Correct me if I'm wrong but conventional threadless headsets require a crown race to be fitted at that right angle junction, so the lower headset bearing can be seated. This fork just has an integrated crown race, so the bearing sits directly onto the fork.
Like I said, I'm pretty sure other forum members have run this fork fine so interested to hear which headset they used.

Yeah you just don’t need a crown race, otherwise it’s no different
-
• #8
Yes, that.

Aha, ok, but you couldn't use a 90s style Campag threadless headset though, but modern ones should work. Thanks!

I'm curious, why not?
Do those Campagnolo headsets not use crown races, or are they just a drastically different shape?
-
• #11
They use a 'flat bottom' crown race, and because they use loose ball bearings, not cartridge, you can't substitute the Hylix integrated carbon race for the proprietary crown race, as you could with a modern integrated headset, where the crownrace is just a cone to centre the bottom cartridge bearing.

I used a 1" CK nothreadset which fitted but not perfectly because the internal bearing chamfer was off. I think you need 45/45 bearings. Pretty sure CK is 36/36
Mine ended up with a big crack in the back of it. I wouldn't trust using this fork again regardless of headset.

Wow thanks for the info. That's pretty concerning. Did you hammer it much or was it just general road use? Whereabouts exactly on the fork did it crack?

£55 then anyone?
This includes carbon spacers, top cap and 1" bung expander too

Anyone got recommendations for threadlesss 1" seal cartridge headsets? :-)

I’ve recently fitted an M-Part Elite one to a new build on to which I didn’t want to fit a spendy CK one before I knew I was happy with the frame.
Looked to be good quality and well finished. -

Thanks, I came across those. They appear to be 36 degree bearings and in the comments above that angle has had bad results with the integrated crown race on these forks. :-(

Just noticed that you said you put it onto eBay and not to dredge the post... whoops!!! Although if it's still available....
