  • Let me count the ways in which you don't want this any more than I do:

    1. No saddle. Owner didn't want to accept the risk of the saddle on his new bike being appalling shit, so he pulled the one off this to hold in the parts bin
    2. Front rim 'sploded, which was the final straw.
    3. Nexus 8 IGH. I mean, not just why the hell would anybody want one of these, but it is in need of a new cassette joint unit if you want to change gear, and a new roller brake (fuck knows where you get one of those for sensible money) if you want a functional rear brake. There are no fittings for a V-brake or disc caliper.

I obviously have a very jaundiced view of this after wrenching on it for 15 years for both my sister in law and my dad, with it annoying me at every turn. Nonetheless, you might still want to come and get some or all of it before I cut it up for scrap. The frame is 45cm centre to top on the seat tube, so it will fit quite small people. It has 2 (two) tyres full of air and covered in tread, and one good rim. It's 135mm OLN at the back, so if you find a 6-bolt 29er wheel and a bolt on sprocket, you're half way to a fixei pub/beater. Add a saddle and enough spokes to move the one good rim to the front and you are literally on your way, complete with rack and mudguards. Other options include taking it apart and sending the useful bits to a suitable charity, or just beating it flat with a hammer to vent your rage at Lance Armstrong, who was cheating aboard Treks when this one was born.

Collect from Slough or pay for shipping and handling. You will not be able to ride it away unless you bring a saddle and a suitable front wheel.

  • Fixie, bring it back

  • Fixie, bring it back

It did get fixied for a while when my sister in law wanted to get in some "keep pedalling" practice before going to Calshot for the first time. I think that's the most realistic future for this as a complete bike, but I'm not going to be the one to do it.

  • I fettled one of these into a singlespeed with a Sturmey XRD drum brake hub and it was a great and fairly lightweight fat-tyres runabout bike. Slightly sorry to have parted with it.
