Could be a solution - but trying to avoid it aesthetically, also would make the cable routing even weirder...

The Campagnolo ones will flatten out when you tighten them up it's not going to be a great looking solution though.
Problem Solvers do a bolt on stop that might be a better option?

Which one do you mean?
The bolt on stop is still a last resort, but trying to avoid it. Leaves the existing boss uncovered and looks somehow clumsy...

They're made for round tubes, but the plastic is soft enough that they'll fit flush once they're tightened up.

Ah - that's a valuable tipp. The LBS just had the Campa ones and couldn't order any flat shimanos...

Just to answer this finally: Shimano does flat ones for aluminium frames.
After grinding some little nose on the socket I have they fit tightly and still have space for turning the adjuster...

my Nishiki frame has aero bosses for the shifters (originally Suntour Symmetric). But i've got this part now as a converter.
Can anyone recommend some esp. wide or flat adjustable downtube cable stops?
Guess with typical ones, the adjusters may collide with the frame....
