Lightweight 1" steel fork

  • I built my first fork with the copy of Max fork legs. I feel like it will be unnecessarily stiff and heavy. I loved building it though.

Next project is to build a straight lightweight fork. Any recommendations for tubing? Weight info seems to be really hard to come by. Pete from ceeway told me that Reynolds does butted 1" steerers. What is the weight of real Max fork legs? I would prefer the slim look of Precisa fork, apart from that am I am not a heavy or aggressive rider and feel that Max fork could be too stiff..

  • I built a set recently with Columbus SL fork blades and steerer with a lightweight crown. I was surprised how light they felt.

The "Max" ones Peter has are fine but heavy and just a cheapish copy.

  • My old 753 fork was about 600g think 853 should be lighter still and stiff too.
953 fork also exist... but big jump in price and silver brazed only.

  • @Markgee I was actually asking about real Max for the next project.

@wildwest 600g sounds amazing, I would be very happy to go sub 700g. Yeah I was thinking of going all reynolds, but it would all be much easier with a spredsheet and some concrete weight data... should anybody care to share his own data i would be very keen.

  • Any opinions on the 1" 1.6/1.1. steerer? Rider weight limit?
