get canyon

• #3
Are you solely using it for road? There is a whole world of widfarm and ways accessible with 38mm tyres now to think about.
EVen just with road i'd plump for discs nowadays. Many reasons why well documented.

Road only yes, I dabble in MTB on rented or borrowed bikes so I get my mud fix there
I'm in two minds over discs, I don't know enough to make an informed decision. if I'm honest I just prefer the look of calipers

it can't be that easy

As for the bikes themselves, the common knowledge is that Specialized, Trek, Canyon, and BMC are a step above everyone else. Sure Giant, Bianchi, Cervelo, and Pinarello are great, but when it comes down to millimetres, a brilliant bike can make all the difference.

fuck bianchi, fuck campag, fuck italian sycophancy, if its half the price of the canyon, get it. Apple to apple, canyon will always be better and better value.
-
• #8
Why fuck Bianchi? Other than Italian sycophancy
-
• #9
maybe too harsh and I like roglic
it offers nothing that other brands don't that are cheaper

fuck bianchi, fuck campag...

I had a quick browse of BMC as per your quote. These are drawing me in;

how come? same reason?

• #13
great bikes

• #14
Bianchi and Campag have become increasingly irrelevant - let the MAMILs drool over it.
-
• #15
Literally the least imaginative decision EVER

• #16
but between those 2 ..

Both shit.

Emonda ALR Disc 2019

• #19
What would you suggest?
-
• #20
I'd buy a shitter with gears and fucking destroy it before picking something up a bit better. You might move out to the sticks and find you like MTBing or something. £2k on first road bike? Mine cost $70AUD
-
• #21
$70AUD
thats £2k now
-
• #22
Haha
Almost. Maybe after Brexit it'll get there.
-
• #23
Thanks, I had a quick look. Both ALR 4 and 5 appear to tick every box. They don't excite me though!

I cycle to work most days, and I can't use my current track bike on the new commute. I've been considering this acquisition for a while now and moving out of London has finalised my decision.
Anyway aren't MTB's definitely more than 70AUD?

Buy 2nd hand and cheap. In 12 months you will feel different about a lot of things, then upgrade to the Canyon or whatever. lovely bikes you have linked, I envy this.
I'm moving out of London into the hills so I need to buy a new bike with more than one gear
This end of the bicycle spectrum is new to me so I was hoping some of you from the forum more ITK than myself would be kind enough to share opinions and advise. I have only basic knowledge on components, groupsets etc.
I'm looking to spend circa £2k, preferably less. I don't want anything too serious, but I don't want to regret buying something too basic in 12-18 months time. I'm open to buying second hand, but I'd prefer the warranty and receipt (for insurance) that come with a new bike.
A decent frameset with a basic groupset which can be upgraded over time might be the answer, if that exists. I have an eye on these two but I'd be interested to hear opinions, experiences and alternatives...
