Do you want mudguards and tyres bigger than 23c?

No to mudguards, potentially going 25c no bigger

Lugged carbon bikes from the nineties are always a bit of a gamble.

Really? Prone to damage easily? Have you had any experience with any Look bikes?
Maybe I should look at a steel option instead. -

I have owned a 586, still own a 464 and just bought a KG233 (steel). I'm pretty sure the 251 has aluminium lugs, and carbon tubes unbonding from metal lugs is not unheard of.
Regardless of brand or construction I would be concerned with any 20 year-old carbon frame.
Steel Looks can be bought cheap and are nicely made in Italy with Columbus tubing. Saying so you can still buy NOS carbon KGs online if you're that keen. -

I rode a KG381 for a while. Absolutely class bike. Managed to fit a 28c in it (although very tight) for winter months and then went to 23’s when things dried up. Do it!

I've got KG 233 and I second. So comfortable and looks sharp with the chrome. Lots of compliments. Although you can only fit 23s on the front....just.

My old 241, first proper road bike. Ridden it for quite a few years now through all kinds of weather and over plenty of gravel. Really is 2-4-1, geddit?
Fits 25s and raceblades for wet days (they sort of work). Love this bike. You won't regret going for LOOK though there is always a nagging sense of "what if" regarding the alu lugs/carbon tubes thing...

I did a dry test with a 25c and it was fine (as it should with that style of Columbus forks)?

I use a trek 2300 which has carbon tubes bonded into alloy lugs and I am not concerned.

Thank you all for the replies
Hi all,
This may be a bit of a silly question but here I go: I'm looking at getting a winter bike and I like the idea of getting an old Look.
Now, I've searched different models and as it is for a winter bike, I don't mind much which it is but I was wondering if anyone in the forum owns a KG251. Am I being an idiot for getting such bike as a winter ride? How do they ride? Still reasonable value after all the years?
Many questions I know but I'm curious to know if anyone out there can share some advice with me.
Cheers,
JM
