  • probably because she is getting all the cake from road side spectators.

And everyone is taking selfies with her, from the looks its fine to her, but you never know

  • Snooze you looze.

  • Always liked Kristof Allegaert's complete indifference to people badgering him in the IPWR film. Seemed to send the message "give me some space" without needing to get confrontational.

  • Also feel like Bjorn probably shouldn't have been at the control points. Got to give you a boost if a friend/mentor is there to meet you, not that it was intended that way I guess.

  • I seem to remember various riders having friends or family at the road side cheering them on over the years. That must give a morale boost. Then again, interacting with riders on here hopefully gives them a morale boost.

  • Lulu still looks to be doing well on her Instagram stories (revelinpedaling).

  • Her Tracker shows she turned around before heading in the mountains, probably getting a hotel and some rest

  • True. Just that he was manning the CP was maybe a step too far. Could be there as cheerleader sure. Not really an issue anyhow.

  • So it appears that I have a separated shoulder, from my fall on day 1. Definite lump above the AC joint on that side, and the bruising is coming out now, a long yellow one at least a foot long wrapped over the top of my shoulder.

It didn't bother me when I was riding but in real life it is a little bit painful, and putting a T shirt on is a lot more challenging than cycling jersey with zip. Cycling 300km per day was a great anaesthetic!

One thing to explore while I'm getting it fixed is to what extent it might have been behind my neck probs.

  • Can Ben win this?

Fiona doesn't have a dominant lead like kristof / skinny enjoyed.

I don't know how long they both rested last night but Ben has about 900km to go. If he could ride in from there without another stop it would put massive pressure on Fiona and she'd have to do the same. She is favourite but it's not yet in the bag.

  • A straight push it do able.

It will come down to mental tenacity.

I give they have enough left up there to push each other

  • That you rode so far in such a condition marks you out as one tough mother but also totally bonkers (in a good way)

  • Firstly, I’m sorry that your brilliant ride was forced to finish early. As ever I’m in awe of how hard you all push yourselves, day after day. All the more impressive seeing as you were riding with a significant injury.

One thing to explore while I'm getting it fixed is to what extent it might have been behind my neck probs.

I also separated my shoulder a couple of years back in a crash and have a decent size ‘step’. It causes very few issues in life, but I do suffer a bit on longer rides with neck issues. My friends have said that they notice I hold my injured shoulder higher (maybe overcompensating?) and I think that unbalanced position causes some pain. I’ll get back to Scherrit at some point to see what he thinks and if it can be fixed with either fit or physio.

Anyway, hope the journey home has been relaxing and well done again.

  • Thanks, interesting.
    I'm seeing physio on Thursday.

  • I think ignorance helped! I knew there was nothing broken so I thought it was just a bit of bruising and swelling. Also, on the bike, it was in a comfortable position, and putting on a cycling jersey was easier than normal clothes. Finally a quick chat with Doug Migden, an A + E doctor, reassured me there was nothing major likely to be wrong

  • Nice article. Well done James.

Only a pity that Walsh, writing about the need for a women’s Tour on the back page of the Sports section, didn’t reference it.

  • CP3 is closing tomorrow morning. so everyone who is not making it there is scratched, right?

  • No. You're not scratched.
You just dont get a placing just a finish.

  • ah alright, this makes more sense. thanks!

  • Not sure Fiona will be caught. The terrain is now much steadier (maybe with headwinds at points?) , Ben has been suffering since the second checkpoint and her lead is a consistent gap for a while now. Fiona looks tired but in good spirits. Obviously an issue can happen and change things quickly as we saw with rj and Bjorn. The race for third will be interesting.

  • Brilliant brilliant ride Frank! Especially with your neck and a separated shoulder

  • Sure, I'm not saying it's likely, fiona is obviously favourite, just not impossible for her to be caught.

  • Agree. Just spitballing. Perhaps she will push through to the line now. It would be safest.
