Sounds a bit drastic. Italian thread is wider than British so it would be quite a task needing Milling out, sleeving and re -tapping to British thread. Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to use Italian BB?

I'm hoping 1mm each side can be removed with a Facing Tool and the threads don't need to be touched, I'm gonna try put in an Italian threaded BB like you suggested as soon as it arrives, hopefully that works , the BB shell is 70 wide with English thread at present, cheers

Ah that's unusual 70mm with English thread. Italian BB will NOT work then.
What you need is a BB with both cups adjustable each having a lock ring . OR as i suspect it had originally thick wall cups - some BB cups were very thick on the outer (flat) face so that they accommodated a shorter axle (shorter from race surface to race surface)
yes a facing tool would be an option also.
What is the frame? -

I actually have 2 frames a Merckx and the other is a Ribble Columbus SLX, I wanted to fit a octolink BB, if I don't find a Facing Tool I may dismantle two dura ace 7700 BB's and swap the cups
Hi all, does anyone know of a London bike shop that can reduce a BB shell from 70mm to 68mm with English thread , North/East London being first choice cheers
