Sometimes the best thing to do is leave it to those more capable to help and give them the space they need to work. If it's something that plays on your mind after maybe seek emergency/first aid training so if a time comes along when you are the first one there then you are prepared in some way to help, often tho I think little can be done by lay people in these circumstances.
My thoughts are with the rider, do hope it's not as bad as the few tweets I've seen sound.

I think training of some sort is a good idea and I'm going to look in to this. It wasn't good :(

Horrific, my sister saw this and said absolutely horrendous injuries

I am first aid trained. It takes a day to learn some basics but is very worthwhile. Many workplaces will fund it.
Having a bit of basic training is really useful, every time I have had to assist the training just takes over. I have helped out at roadside incidents, neighbours having trouble etc etc. On a few occasions I have just found people milling around a casualty but uncertain what to do. Having a plan of securing the area (getting someone to direct traffic or hail down a bus to shield the casualty), getting someone to call emergency services while you get on with assessment and can then instruct emergency services is a huge assistance. When the response team arrives you can brief them and hand over, stay if they need any additional help and then go about your day.

Some terrible, indecent people filmed the scene.

Fuck, think this is a friend of one of my wife's close friends. Apparently she's lost one leg and will probably lose the other; her friends are putting together a fundraiser of some kind to help with her rehab.

God that's dreadful. On the one hand I'm glad she survived but I cannot imagine at the slightest having to come to terms with losing one or even both your legs. Fingers crossed and all the best for recovery

Horrendous, what a nightmare.

Unfortunately from what i saw that doesn't surprise me. I still think about it everyday. What an awful situation to be in. really feel for her.

Good news is the doctors have been able to save one leg; bad news is as a freelancer she's going to have a tough time ahead of her. Fundraiser details here:

Allegedly the cyclist hit a pot hole and fell off in front of the lorry, so the driver wasn't driving dangerously
This is scary if true; the last place you are looking at is down at the road when navigating Old St. round about, so it could have happened to anyone
If this is true then perhaps the council are accountable to some degree. Regardless, my thoughts have been with the victim ever since I heard the horrific, sad and scary news.

so the driver wasn't driving dangerously
Well, there's that whole 'driving for the conditions' thing - taking it a bit easy around vulnerable road users, so that should the worse happens you do have time to take evasive action.
Hmmm anyway these threads aren't usually used for apportioning or discussing blame.

Yes you are completely right
I don't mean to debate accountability, but to point out a possible update on the tragic situation for those who might be concerned

Concrete mixer truck Vs Cyclist.
I suspect I was only 5 mins max after it happened as ambos were still heading towards it as I went passed.
I'm sorry rider I didn't stop but they were enough people trying to help already and there wasn't anything I could do for which I feel awful about.
