2018-06-19 - Rider Down/Fatality, Warwick Road SW5

Several reports on Twitter that the incident that closed Warwick Road last night in rush hour involved a vehicle and a cyclist and that it was extremely serious, but as yet haven't seen police/BBC/Standard official reporting.

BBC London live reporting did confirm cyclist involved in their 16:11 update on their website yesterday.

I’ve just seen someone tweet to @TfLTrafficNews that the rider died. I hope this is a mistake.

Sadly reported in the Standard too. RIP lady rider.

If a 68 year old lady isn't a sensible road user I don't know who is.
Some drivers are just a murder waiting to happen.

Sympathy for the poor woman's family and friends. That section of the ring road is a horrible race track with no safe routes for people on bikes.

Drivers go way too fast down that stretch. Changing lanes is usually a challenge.

Sad news. Warwick Road is part of one of London's longest and worst one-way systems. It runs all the way from near Holland Park right down to the Thames, along what should be local streets and not streets used as part of the strategic road network. RIP unknown rider.

Hilda Denham was today named by police as the victim of a fatal
collision on Warwick Road, Earls Court.

A very sad needless waste of life.

Generally and without reference to this incident, there are some truly horrible stretches of road around there than cannot be ridden safely unless speeds are such that the cyclist can take their lane. Infrastructure aside, it’s the level of dangerous and inconsiderate driving that makes it so.
