Have got myself to blame, but it smacks of planning - what are the odds thieves carry bolt cutters under their jackets on the streets of London for opportunist bike thieving at night ?
I did lock it that way simply because it felt easier to unlock/lock, as one has to go up some stairs to street level, and then go past a gate...which was unlocked since Wednesday night for rubbish collection on Thursday... I did not think a thief would persevere, which suggest a planned return with bolt cutters on Friday night ...

@AlphaOmega - Cheers !
PS: I presume Eagle Eyed cyclist will snap a picture of the person's face up close and say
"nice bike, where did you get it ? "
if they suspect it's a stolen one ? ... well, am guessing and don't know what the etiquette is , but I can presume if the frame / cycle is confirmed to be stolen by the owner, what follows is to upload the pic to Facebook asking if anyone can identify ... which is like a "naming & shaming" of the shister ?

Have you told the police?

Reporting Monday to obtain crime number etc...

Do it online now. The police hate you doing it any other way anyway and it has the same effect.

has the same effect.
None?

Usually, I’d go about this but arranging to buy the bike, if I saw it. I’ll keep a look out.
