Photos from the sale thread, will also need some obligatory DBAD stickers
Hopefully image now works, stupid work Macbook

I am pretty sure a sram road shifter will shift a clutched sram mech, unlike shimano where mtb and road wont mix easily.

Drops or risers? Id say go sram 10 speed for 1x. Consumables are cheaper and still as widely available as 11 speed, plus it'll probably last a little longer. Gx rear mech will take 36t+ and rival 10 speed shifters go for cheap on ebay. Can also recommend J&L narrow wides from far east ebay sellers. High quality and mine hasnt dropped a chain after a good few hundred rough miles

Hit me up for 10 speed 11-36 cassettes.

Drops, got some deda RHM01s which seem to get on with my wrists quite well. Yeah I don't really care about going up to 11 and was hoping 10 may be more abundant in the 2nd hand market. From what I can see most SRAM mechs will work with their road levers, @michaelgscott hopefully what you've said applies? The x9 and the like seem fairly abundant but will be what I can find on here really. Oh good to know about the J&L may get that ordered sooner rather than later for fear or a long wait! @Howard thanks for the offer if I can't grab a wheelset with one on there I will be in touch

All 10-speed SRAM is compatible. 11-speed road shifters also work with 10-speed MTB derailleurs. 11-speed MTB is a no-go.
Photo doesn't work for me, try again maybe? Interested though, I nearly bought a Boardman CX frame

Ah I see, thanks!
Embedded it, no idea what was going on with the upload. Yeah I've spoke to a few people that have them. I constantly get whims about what I like and don't like so I figured the frame go for something simple and if I decide disc brakes aren't dead or something later on I can at least move over the 1x stuff and just replace the brakes and wheelset. Stoked it comes with the fork from the tricross I know some people aren't a fan but I kind of dig its oddness

Nice, look forward to seeing it built up!

Thanks, thinking something of this ilk for the paint but that will depend on how much I have left over after getting parts and how patient I am!

you could go 1x9 and then mate any shimano 9 speed bit to any other bit - my cx pro has this...
i currently run 9 speed 34T on the back on an XTR 9 speed rear mech and 9 speed mtb shifter on the flat bar, but when i want to move to drops, i just put in a 9 speed shifter. up front is an ultegra crank on a 42T i think it was.mines disc (cx pro, not sure of year) but for you - as the other "hand" is for braking only.... you could go disc fork and run 1 hydro brake up front....

if the 9 speed stuff is available I've got no preference really just that in an ideal world the shifter wouldn't have the cable exiting the shifter at a right angle, not a fan.
Yeah as time goes on I realise I don't like buying whole new things, I like projects and bodges, hence the crankset on this being a 165mm track crank with a narrow wide on it! If I decide to go hydro discs on to another frame, I think that is how I'd do it, gradually add the front end to this and then upgrade the frame and rear as and when

Some limited progress tonight having picked up the frame last night! Think I'm going to have to free some funds up so expect to see a small pompino in the classifieds soon! Frame feels surprisingly light getting excited for this one

looking forward to seeing this built. I also seem to go the long way round with builds.

In the absence of any interest in my pompino I've made fuck all progress in this, other than messaging everyone in the wanted ads.
Had a few more ideas re other parts, these SRAM cranks are a good length and 1x, but I'd need to get a replacement chainring. Ideally just need a 170mm pair of cranks to fit a BB30 bb, that will accommodate a nw chainring. Would work out at 60 with a JL ring of eBay which is pretty good for a new crankset
Shifters since I only need the one I'm tempted by a bar end shifter unless I can find a set of apex/rival shifters at a good price, as the SRAM mechs are fairly plentiful and cheap. What is the consensus opinion on bar end shifters?
If I can free up a bit of money freelancing, I may try lacing up my own. Something along the lines of DT Swiss R460 to shimano hubs, but this might be a 2nd version thing.
About the only thing I have money for at the moment is paint. Heading down to my parents at the weekend who's garage will make a decent spray booth, just hope BLB have the colour I'm looking for in stock.
Now to decide what that colour is, trying to match the orange above.

I'd build that up before throwing money at painting it.
You know, to make sure there isn't something wrong with it. Like a fucked BB30 shell for example.
-
• #17
Yeah thats what the sensible part of my brain has been telling me. I've cleaned it up and taken everything out the shell. All looks fine and was acquired off here with no issues so hopefully no problems. Well I suppose I can use the time I'd have spent painting actually seeing my family.

All looks fine
Is your super power being able to see in microns? But yeah it's probably fine.
There's some light and nice BB30 cranks here

S-Works chainset w/ Rotor 53/39t rings & Carbon 130bcd spider. Well used. £40
I think you can get direct mount chainrings for them...

Made little to no progress here due to a lovely MOT. Planning wise - no closer to deciding on groupset - when I have some funds it will be whatever I can get really.
Wheelset from reading around the prime wheelsets are well spoken of, and are tubeless ready which I'd love to try.
This would also mean getting some tubeless tyres, again well spoken of and tubeless ready g ones seem a good go to?
At this point I'm still just planning but happy to hear peoples thoughts
SO, having previously been in search of a do it all, I've settled on a "does most things" which is much more sensible and suited to my lets say, limited, budget. I love the Pompino I picked up for the winter but I don't wanna potentially bugger it up by trying to fit gears to it.
Really I need something capable of at least 28s and guards to do the daily commute, and for weekends so I don't hold back group rides slogging up hill on the Pre Cursa. Also love the idea of picking up some gravel when I'm visiting the in-laws in Durham.
So, having seen @Pas142 was putting his boardman up for sale I'll be picking it up tomorrow night!
I think the first plan will be to get something rolling as soon as possible, with the emphasis on being able to add bits to it as I can to improve it. In the name of cutting cost and reducing bits that can break, I've decided to go 1x with whatever speed I can get cheapest either 10 or 11.
Oh, and paint. Forks will stay black but the frame I plan on either green or orange spray.bike DIY job.
Bits I'll need:
Hoping I should be able to pick most of this up off here as cheaply as possible. My main area of ignorance is the shifters and mech. Mainly, what second hand bits can I cobble together to give a decent performance? Also not sure on the gearing but the riding I do is all fixed at the moment so anything more varied than that is a win!
I know SRAM is supposed to be fairly cross compatible between the different lines, I just need something that can shift up and down!
Any advice or potential inspiration would be great, as well as any parts people can sort me out with!
