Update: slight preference for steel, as wrists and elbows aren't super-tolerant of vibration. Comfort probably trumps speed.

flip flop hub sounds like you're after a SS/fixed?
If you're in the market for a geared bike I have a old Giant TCR with 9spd Sora groupset and DT Swiss wheels, nice finishing kit and some new parts on it inc new tyres, cables and chain. It's your size and well within your budget.
In N10, PM if interested

Ridgeback branded Genesis Flyer in 54? My workhorse, not sure I should be riding too much fixed / SS these days so thinking about getting something with some gears of all things. Needs a new front rim, otherwise good to go.

Pulled the trigger on a Marin Nicasio SS 2017 for just short of £400. It'll do the trick, and was available immediately. I'll probably get the bug again and be in the market for something sexier soon, but to get me up and running, it'll do!

Yep, Day One was on the shortlist, but I couldn't get it until the following week, and fuck public transport for a week!

Moving back to London on Wednesday for a 6 month contract. Bikes at home are too precious for all weather every day London usage, so I need something pronto.
Favour flip-flop as my ancient knees aren't what they were, and sometimes I'm just not up for it.
Prefer not massively twitchy, but could always swap out stem if needed to mellow it.
I don't have time or London-based tools for servicing, so bonus points for serviced and good to go.
Even more bonus points if I could pick it up this week.
Budget notionally £500 because that's what I'd spend if I bought something OTP.
