WTB: Cheap Aero Gear for first season fixed tt'ing

Posted on
  • Will be building up around a dolan pre-cursa.

Slow burner too, nothing is urgent here.

    Things I'll need:
    -Basebar and extensions
-Low spoke count/deep front wheel (most cost efficient way to be aero here I think?)
-Deep rear wheel to facilitate maybe making a cover
    -Various cogs

    Thanks for looking!

  • I have some Vision Trimax 42cm base bars, 270mm j bend clip on bars and brake levers.

  • I have some tt bars you can have for £10 NOS, however they're standard clamp diameter not oversized. Will take photos tonight

  • I’ve got a Deda base bar you can have for cheap.
Also have a 170mm HT2 chainset and 51T Stronglight 130bcd chainring that I used when I did some fixed TT’ing.

  • Got some profile wing bars ovesize and internal cable routing almost brand new £15

  • I've a profile t2 base bar and t2 aero extension set I've used twice for track pursuit if that's of any interest? Probably need £80 to let them go.

  • Thanks for the responses!
I'm gonna go OS I think. @InternetFamous any pics of the bars?

Likewise @Pifko for the bars? How much would you like for the chainring? I'm on crappy miche primato cranks which are 130bcd anyway.

  • Pfft, Primato? Get some stiff HT2 cranks that won’t fuck up the B.B. spindle bit-by-bit every time you fit/remove :D

    Will get a pic shortly!

  • I'll have to dig them out, but here's a stock photo from google.

  • I'm probably going to go for something more modern, thanks though.

@Pifko any word on the pics and chainring? Also, what are the cranks?

  • Will get pics tonight - promise!
It's the black Stronglight chainring as per here and a set of Shimano R550 (I think) cranks as per here in 170mm

  • Ok, pics of cranks, Chainring (which needs a wipe down) and Deda Crono Nero base bars attached!

  • Wonderful, thanks!
I'm definitely interested in the basebar and the chainring, and maaaybe the chainset pending price? Is posting okay? I should have mentioned I'm in Manchester

  • Of course, I'm in Bournemouth. Will PM

  • If alias takes just the bae bar, I'm interested in the extensions!

  • I don't think the extensions are for sale? If they are I think I'll likely buy!
@Pifko I'll reply today, still pondering the cranks. Pros of hollowtech, cons of 170mm

  • The clip-ons are spare for when my current vuka setup fails (likely soon) - or do you literally just mean the alloy extension bars? I don’t need those - They’re standard 22.2mm. want them?

  • Looking forward to the build @alialias !
Think gf might have some clip-ons (Deda Parabolica Due) available (prob about £15).
I also have those carbon rear disc covers (cut for wide rims). Will swap for that stem... ;-)
Would consider selling my front 50mm carbon wheel (Token C50A, 20h, alu braking surface, decals removed) as it's not currently doing anything... £60.

  • I'm confused, I thought clip-ons are the extensions? Sorry.

Cheers @Lukas , I have no idea what I'm doing, clearly. I'll need a deeper rim before I'm fitting any kind of cover to it I think! The alter?

  • Not your fault; it IS confusing, and components have different names to different folks.
'Extensions' literally would mean the extension poles only.
'Clip-ons' could refer to the entire system (excluding base bar), i.e. clamps, armrests, pads, extensions', but as these items are often purchased separately, it could just as easily refer to only the clamp/armrest element.
@Pifko's Zipp Vuka Alumina Clip, when new, can be purchased with or without extensions from new, and has the name 'Clip', just to make it more confusing.

My RALTech carbon disc covers are for shallow rims - they terminate at the braking surface, so you can use normal wheels (although they work best with a wide 23mmish rim and a Novatec track hub)
And yep, the Alter, ha :-) Edited my above post earlier as there's a front 50mm carbon not doing anything. Not mega deep, but then a Hed3 is only 56mm...

  • Thanks! I'll drop you a text about this stuff, definitely interested in the clip ons and the wheel (though that might be the end of the month)
@Pifko you've got pm! @fizzy.bleach the extensions are all yours

  • I had the same misconception as alialias about the nomenclature of the thingies.

That said, I would take the Zipp extensions, pending price...

  • If OP doesn't want the raltechs, I could be interested. Would they work with a narrow rim?

  • @jzk Don't think they'd work, would be a bit flappy/uneven where they meet the rim due to the fasteners compressing/distorting the cover to make contact with the rim. Work best with min. rim width of 23mm & depth of at least 25mm , and a double sided track hub with fairly narrow flange spacing, like Novatec A166SBT. Most recently successfully fitted to wheel built using said hub and Kinlin XC-279 rim.
OP may till want them and is local to me so holding onto them for now, but will PM you down the line if he doesn't take'em!
