Spare flexible spoke is it any good?

  • Has anyone actually used one of these in anger? Most of the reviews seem to be how good the idea is rather to than actual experience of using it following a broken spoke.

  • If you've not already been here, worth a read before buying this, could make the bike rideable again before you get to a LBS for a replacement spoke!

  • Tape a spare NDS spoke to your seat-tube/seatstay/chainstay and have a Spokey on your keyring.

  • I broke three neighbouring spokes on the rear wheel of a bike I was riding on a tour of holland/belgium/france, in the summer. Repaired the wheel by bending the remaining bit of spoke, at the nipple end, creating an eye. I then slackened the nipple thread as much as possible, and used the core fibres from a piece of dynema rope laced through the hub holes.and then through the eyes of bent spoke. Pulled this as tight as possible, then tensioned with the nipples. Made it to the bike shop about 5km away, the next morning. I now always carry a couple of spare spokes the right length, taped to the seatstay.
