What size mech is this?

Hi - looking at this mech - is it short or med? Anyhoo - even if it is short can I get an 11-28 cassette in there?
50/34 FC-700 compact chainset.

Picture of the cage might help....

For short cage Shimano say max. cassette 27, max. capacity 29.

You'll be exceeding the capacity by 4: (50-34)+(28-11)=33. However Shimano are pretty conservative and unless you have exceedingly long CS it will most likely work (and shouldn't be riding in small/small or big/big anyway).

Yes indeed re:pics of cage but not received it yet!

That's my understanding of Shimano regs too (more conservative than inactual practice) so do you reckon it'll be fine with an adjustment of the B screw and possibly a 12-28 (rather than 11)?

Possible this mech only comes as SS (according to another source) so may be a case of suck it and see👍

77 or 78? I can confirm 11-28 works with the latter, however was with big boy rings that my legs do not need :D

7400 runs 28T no problem, would I be wrong to guess that both 7700 and 7800 clear it as well?

I think the 7800 mech came in both a GS and SS version. Both should work with a 28, although as mentioned above, you won't be able to cross-chain with the SS mech.

Would also guess that's the SS version in the pic, but it's tricky to tell due to the angle!

Think I'll sell it and go for a suitable med-cage rear mech. At a guess - what's a sensible LFGSS price for the mech - think it's in vgc? Thanks

30-40 notes depending how quickly you want to shift it.

Many thanks for that; along the lines I was thinking - think then 37.50 posted (plus fees if someone wants protection) seems reasonable? Or an ex/px for a 6600 med cage rear mech and Ultegra level cassette?
