  • If it's this bb

then you'd be better off with

as it has the pin spanner end and the other end for the other side, and you'll also need a lockring tool too.

  • ordered the first pin spanner, removed one side already with locking tool. Think i may take my chance with adjustable spanner. Looks like a decent tool though!

  • think you were right, gonna need that spanner at the other side for the right hand cup, an adjustable spanner isn't gonna cut it

  • It really does make it a lot easier.

  • A bench vice makes it easier still if the fixed cup is reluctant to let go of the BB shell

  • I do have a bench vice

  • do you know the name of this tool?
    edit:got it

  • What the hell bottom bracket tool do I need to get rid of this bastard plastic lockring?

  • any lockring tool would do wouldn't it?

    like this..

  • Anyone know if the Wheels Mfg BSA30 bottom brackets use some kind of standard tool?

I know they do their own tools but I can't remember if they're the same pattern as Shimano or something.

  • BSA30 cups are of necessity bigger than HT2 cups, so they use a different tool. There are at least couple of different types, with different numbers of splines,

  • plastic lockring

Pro tip in case the thing breaks in half and leaves the sleeve really stuck inside the BB: use a red-hot spoke or other metal to melt a line through it and it will come out easily. Do this outside with really good ventilation, you do not want the fumes this will produce getting in your eyes or respiratory tract. I can’t emphasise that enough.

  • Do they use a different tool to the normal outboard Shimano bearings? Maybe I used my Rotor BB tool on them? I can't remember

  • Does anyone have an idea where I could get a rinpoch bottom bracket from, or how to even identify what would work with it? I've stupidly stripped rounded the one that came with my cranks and I'm at a loss as where to turn to.

I thought it would fit this guy but no luck. The bottom bracket is slightly larger.
