FS: Surly Cross Check 58cm

Posted on
  • Up for sale is my 2013 Surly Cross Check in 58cm size. I have decided to sell as I’m looking to get myself a 26 inch expedition bike for some more ambitious tours I have planned. The bike itself is currently set up with drops, mudguards, a small front rack and a 1x9 drivetrain. I have run the bike 2x9 and with flat bars before, it really is unbelievably versatile!

    Spec is as follows:
    Frame/fork - Surly Cross Check 58cm
    Headset - Cane Creek
Rims - Destickered touring rims, unsure of brand but suitable for +40mm tyres. Managed to spill a bit of paint on the rear rim as you can see from pictures (doh)
    Hubs - Shimano
Tyres - Continental Tour Rides (can throw in some 40mm Schwalbe Land Cruisers if asking price is met)
    Brake levers - Tektro
Brake calipers - Shimano Deore V-brakes
Gear shifter - Microshift indexed, braze-on mounted
    Derailleur - Shimano Deore
Chainring - Blackspire Snaggletooth Narrow Wide 36t
    Handlebars - Salsa Woodchipper
    Stem - Ritchey Comp 110mm
    Seatpost - Ritchey Pro
    Saddle WTB

The bike is in good working condition however the frame is a bit scuffed from use. There are however no dents or big scratches and structurally the frame is sound. The bike is located in Ambleside in the South Lakes and can be viewed on request. I’m happy to post the bike to anywhere in mainland UK if the buyer covers the cost. I'm looking for £500 O.N.O. If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Cheers!

  • 58cm might be pushing it for me, what’s the st and tt lengths? And the stupidest question, how tall are you? Etc. Clean ride this.

  • Hi dude,

st (centre to top) - 58cm
tt (centre to centre) - 57.98cm

I'm 6'2" and a half. I think it's all dependant on what kind of riding you'll be doing. I think if I was mainly riding on the road I'd go for the next size up. For mixed-surface riding it has been spot on for me. Handles the gravel roads a treat. Hope that helps bud!

    Cheers,

    Tom

  • I'd say that I rather ride a smaller frame on road an a bigger one off, GLWS

  • Nice bike, nearly 100% identical to my own Cross Check. I'm 184cm and 58 is a perfect fit for me with a 7cm stem which gives me a fairly upright position. I use it for commuting, touring and a bit of cyclocross. Surly gets the steel feel just right! My favourite bike. GLWS.

  • Hi there onecogtom, I think a cross check is just what I need and this looks just my size! Would you go for £450 and split the postage? I am based in London.

  • Let me know what you decide :)
