The anodising will be rapidly worn away.
Either way, the anodising won't noticeably affect your ability to stop.

I suspect they might not have a machined brake track... so braking will be poor

I can't decide if they do or not. They kind of do look like they do, although the join in the rim isn't very smooth, so maybe it's just a flat bit rather than an actual machined track. The Mavic website makes no mention of it.

Bikeforums seems to agree they have machined brake tracks. I've seen quite a few people running (a) brake(s), so I would think it's no problem.

Ah that's great thank you, I'll just use these then :)

If they are in good condition you could get quite a bit of cash for them (seen them go for £200 and they are nearly £300 for a new set). If this is a cheap run around I'd be tempted to sell and buy something designed for a cheap singlespeed run around rather than a nice set of track/training wheels.

Hmm also a good point Scrabble :-/
So I'm building up a single speed and the only wheels I have spare are some Mavic Ellipses. Only used them a few times on the track so would be a good idea to put them to use, but on closer inspection they have an anodised brake track. Do they work ok with brakes? This is just a cheapy single speed build so do you guys think :
